Eye-Fi, a company that makes SD cards with Wi-Fi capabilities, has shared that it will no longer provide support for older devices. Nonetheless, they will release a final software update, X2U, for these older cards to enable automatic downloads from a camera to a Mac. This news ensures that users with older Eye-Fi cards can still enjoy the convenience of wireless transfers to their computers. Don’t miss out on this handy update that keeps your devices connected seamlessly!
The release is a little unusual because the X2U will be a one-time release provided to enable continued use of an end-of-life (EOL) impacted card for desktop transfer only on a transitional basis. The utility will not have the full capabilities of Eye-Fi Center and/or Eye-Fi View. All other Eye-Fi provided software will have to be uninstalled prior to installing the X2U on a supported device. The company will provide X2U documentation and knowledge base but no help desk support, no warranty, and restrictive terms of service.
While the X2U may not be fully functional, it is still better than nothing. Eye-Fi is still looking into a Windows solution, but at least Mac users can download the new utility. The company’s website provides more information on the X2U and its capabilities.
